FAQ

Can you make me something from my tree ?

I am often asked if I can make something from a tree that is about to be / or has already been taken down. The answer to this question is probably yes but it depends on a number of factors. As a guide trees that have not been felled, have only recently (within days) been felled or are dead but still standing, are more likely to be usable. Below is a list of the questions I would need you to answer before I can tell you if it is possible for me to use your tree to make something for you.

Please use my contact form to supply photos and answers, as appropriate for your tree, and I will then contact you to discuss further.

1.    These questions are for trees that have NOT already been taken down.

·      What sort of tree is it ?

·      What size is the tree (trunk/branch diameter and approx. height) ?

·      Will you have control over how it is cut down ?

·      Can you email some photographs of the tree ?

·      Can you deliver the wood to Huddersfield once we have discussed what I may be able to do with it or will I need to make arrangements for it to be collected ?

·      Ideally, what would you like making from it bearing in mind the type of finished items on my website ?

Can I order an item that is marked as sold out ?

If you like an item which is marked as sold out then you might wish to commission one similar to it. Since all items are unique, it won’t be an identical copy but I can often make an item using a similar timber and design. I will quote you a price for the item before commencing to make it, and then postage and packing charges will be added as above.

Please use my contact form to make such an enquiry giving details of the item you are interested in and your contact details so I can call you to discuss before starting to make it or requesting payment for the piece.

How do I care for my new item ?

  • All items :-

Your new turned item should be kept away from extremes of heat, e.g. don't place it on top of a radiator or close to a south facing window.

  • Wax polished items :-

These items should be kept dry to avoid damaging the polish i.e. don't use as a salad bowl. If splashed, wipe dry immediately and give a light coat of a natural wax polish. Apply a light coat of natural wax polish once every 3 to 6 months to keep your item in good condition. Avoid using a polish containing silicone.

  • Oiled items :-

These items can withstand being damp for short periods of time but should not be immersed in water. They are safe for food use, salad, cheese, etc.. Simply wipe with a damp cloth after use. A light application of a food safe oil should be given every 3 to 6 months depending on the frequency of use and subsequent cleaning.

How do I order wholesale?

Please contact me to discuss the possibility of wholesale orders.

What is your shipping policy?

I will endeavour to get your purchase to you as quickly as possible. The post and packaging options are shown once your items have been placed in your shopping basket and are based on the total value of your order. Please select the correct amount before paying for your order. I estimate it will take 3-5 days from receipt of your order to receiving your items, but this is often quicker. I use Parcel Force Express 48, with additional insurance to cover the value of the product. The Express 48 service requires a signature on delivery.

Of course, if you are able to collect and pay for your item in person then please contact me to make specific arrangements.

Shipping abroad

If you are ordering from or require delivery outside of the UK, please contact me first. I will be happy to arrange this.

Returns policy

If for whatever reason you are not fully satisfied with your purchase then feel free to return your item(s). I offer a 30 day full refund, including the cost of return postage. Just repackage the items using packaging (original or similar) to the specification of the carrier you intend using and make sure that you include a receipt for your return delivery costs. The item(s) should then be returned to me using a service that includes insurance to the full value of the items. On safe receipt of the item(s) I will refund the total to you via your original payment method or by cheque.
