Large Oak bowl

Large Oak bowl

£75.00

This piece of Oak originated from the NT Estate at Wirksworth, Northumberland approximately 10 years ago. On felling the weight of the tree caused it to split in various places. To emphasise these splits they have been filled on the inside but the outside has been scorched. This scorching is a Japanese process know as Shou sugi ban. It is often used to treat timber used on the outside of buildings to give the wood strength & resistance to weathering. Here it provides a marked contrast to the inside colour of the bowl & has enhanced the size of the cracks & the grain of the Oak.

The bowl has been hand turned, scorched, sanded, sealed & given a coating of natural wax polish to produce a unique & very tactile item.

It is suitable for dry goods only.
